Outstanding pitching crowns 12U Ohio County Rangers Madison champs

The Ohio County Rangers got excellent pitching the entire weekend, allowing a total of 4 runs, to bring home the championship at the 2013 Madison Invitational Tournament held on July 13 and 14.

In Saturday’s pool play the Rangers defeated Hanover 2-1. Brandon McGraw and Jacob Bovard combined for a no-hitter, striking out fourteen while giving up six walks. Bovard helped himself by going 2 for three with two singles, an RBI, and run scored. Brayden Bush, Max Bowne, and Colby Ritter each had a hit, while Bush scored the other run for the Rangers.

In Saturday’s second game, the Rangers got a one-hit, complete game performance from pitcher Noah Pflum to beat Versailles 5-1. Pflum allowed one run while collecting 9 strikeouts to only 2 walks. The Rangers bats came alive in this game for 14 hits. Brayden Bush, Peyton Bell, Nate O’Leary, Max Bowne, and Wesley Rider all had 2 hits, while Pflum, Henry Hoffman, Brandon McGraw, and Jacob Bovard added one; Bovard’s coming in the form of a two run homerun in the fifth inning to complete the scoring.

Earning the number one seed for Sunday’s single-elimination play, the Rangers once again got a dominating pitching performance by Brandon McGraw and Jacob Bovard. The two combined for their second no-hitter of the weekend, striking out 11 without giving up any walks, to defeat Hanover 10-1. The Rangers put together 12 hits led by Brayden Bush’s 4 singles and 1 RBI. Peyton Bell went 2 for 3 as did Daniel Daugherty, who added the second home run of the weekend. Bovard, Pflum, Hoffman, and O’Leary each had a hit.

In the championship game, Jacob Bovard took the mound for a complete game 8-1 victory over Versailles. The Rangers had excellent defense in support of Bovard’s 7 strike-out, 0 walk performance. The Rangers bats remained hot, scattering 12 hits with Wesley Rider’s 3 singles leading the way. Brandon McGraw went 2 for 2 with an RBI, while Peyton Bell and Max Bowne went 2 for 3. Nate O’Leary plated two runs on 1 hit, with Bush adding a single. Henry Hoffman added the third home run of the weekend with his solo shot in the 3rd inning.

The Ohio County Rangers are comprised of 11 and 12 year old boys, from the Rising Sun/Ohio County Summer Baseball Program, who have been playing in the surrounding area tournaments. The Rangers will compete in upcoming tournaments in Greensburg and Milan to round out the season.
