The sounds and fury of extreme powerboat racing returns to Rising Sun on Aug. 17-18 with the running of the 2013 Rising Sun “Roar of Thunder” Regatta.
The regatta features the nationally recognized Powerboat Superleague series (aprsuperleague.com) which has over the past 23 years conducted over 138 racing events from coast-to-coast, on two continents and in four countries. They are a member of and sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (APBA) the recognized authority (since 1903) in the United States for amateur and professional boat racing. An estimated 700,000 fans have seen the action with another 25 million viewing the action on national and international television broadcasts.
The race is a continuation of the “A Roar of Thunder” regatta which has been held in nearby Aurora, Ind., for the past 14 years. It will feature nimble and fast Formula Two and three speedboats which will race close to the bank over a tight 2/3rds mile course at Rising Sun’s riverfront park.
