Sept. 20, 1962 50 years ago Pvt. Jack L. Herbert, a Rising Sun native, has been named soldier of the month at Pirmasens, Germany, where he is a member of a Military Police Unit with the Army. Mac’s TV in Aurora has expanded its present location by adding a special “living room” department for the customer who wishes to hear how stereo and color television will sound in their own home. Congratulations to the band on their placement at the fall festival in Ellettsville Saturday. They won fourth in the competition. Births: a daughter was born Sept. 3 to Mr. and Mrs. Norris Henderson; a son was born Sept. 4 to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stevens; twin sons were born Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Walcott; a son was born Sept. 10 to Mr. and Mrs. William Romans; a daughter was born Sept. 14 to Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lucky; a daughter was born Sept. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Gerald White. Rita Hysell has been appointed as Deputy Clerk of the Ohio County Circuit Court succeeding Irene Dorrell who resigned. The Band Boosters Club has scheduled a skating party for Sept. 27 at Al’s Big Top Rink on South Front Street to raise funds for uniforms and band transportation. J. O. Smith, superintendent of schools, said this week the school board for Rising Sun-Ohio County Consolidated Schools has changed their monthly meeting from the second Thursday of each month to the second Tuesday of each month.
