Nobody expected a lot from the Rising Sun Lady Shiners volleyball team in 2012 as first year reserve coach Aryn Peters was elevated to head coach after newly hired head coach Maria Sohn resigned.

Setter Ali Bostic was the lone senior on this year's squad which included  five freshmen and four sophomores on the roster as the season started. The Shiners added two more freshmen as they had 12 players but were not able to field a reserve team.

Instead the freshmen were put into the fire of varsity volleyball and suffered some key injuries.
