The Rising Sun Shiner Pride Marching Band went to Centerville, OH for an invitational contest on Saturday, Oct. 27 and earned special awards for having the Best Music, Best General Effect, Best Visual, and Best Flag Corps in their class. Needless to say, with winning all the special awards, they came in first place! Five of the ten bands from finals last year were at this contest and Shiner Pride came in first! The band scored above West Carrollton (3rd at finals last year), Crawfordsville (5th), Fairborn (6th), and Blue River Valley (10th).
The band marches in the Mid-States Championships this coming Saturday at Shea Stadium in Norwood. There will be 22 bands from Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky who have qualified for pre-lims. Shiner Pride has qualified and marches at 4:15 pm. The Top 10 scoring bands will advance and become finalists. Finals competition starts at 7:00 pm.
The band will be performing at 6:00 p.m. in the middle school gym this Friday. Everyone is invited to come over and listen to the band and encourage them as they go for an appearance in finals to make it two years in a row.
