UPDATE NOV. 2: The surviving driver from a wreck on Ind. 56 at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, is in stable condition, said Aurora Police Officer Shane Slack Friday morning, Nov. 2. The other driver, 78-year-old Billy L. Wainscott of Ohio County, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner's office, said Aurora Police Department. Wainscott was
driving East on Ind. 56 and was struck head-on by Shawn R. Horstman,
39, Rising Sun, said police. Horstman sustained broken ribs, punctured lungs and leg injuries, said Slack, criminal scene investigator. After
being extricated from his vehicle by Aurora and Lawrenceburg fire
departments, Horstman was taken by Aurora Emergency Rescue to Dearborn County
Hospital. He was transferred by AirCare to University Hospital,
Cincinnati, where he remained hospitalized as of Nov. 2. The crash remains under investigation, and Aurora Police are being assisted by an Indiana State Police crash reconstructionist. Ind. 56 was closed until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Original post: One person died and another was taken to Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, after a collision on Ind. 56 in Aurora Wednesday afternoon. The two-vehicle accident occurred at 12:30 p.m., according to Aurora Police Department. Ind. 56 was closed to traffic, which was detoured to U.S. 50 and Laughery Creek Road.
