November 15, 1962 50 years ago The Rising Sun Shiners won their opening game Friday evening by defeating Dillsboro’s Bulldogs 71-49 in a conference game. Billy, Mike and Steve McClure, together with father Bill, entered three of their “racing homer” pigeons in the pigeon show at Covington, Ky., Sunday. Competing against some 325 other birds in the show, the McClure’s pigeons brought home two trophies and several ribbons. A Christmas bazaar has been scheduled by the Band Boosters organization to collect additional funds for the purchase of band uniforms. Mrs. B. B. Dilts and Mrs. Delbert Wright are co-chairman. A new beauty salon will open in Rising Sun next Monday, Nov. 19. The operators, Mrs. Dorothy Ashcraft and Mrs. Alice Ashcraft have selected “The Style Cottage” for their new shop, which is located at 123 Fourth Street. Mason J. Uhlmansiek will represent Hoosier Hills Council of Boy Scouts of American in district competition in the Report to the Nation contest. Mase, an Eagle Scout, won the Hoosier Hills nomination over six other area Scouts by giving a report on this area’s scouting program. A mother was quite upset by all the Ds on her son’s report card. When she asked him what the Ds meant, he replied “Dandy!” Births: to Mr. and Mrs. Gary Eaglin (Mary Ann Lotton) a daughter Rae Jean born Oct. 30; to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fryman, a daughter born Nov. 3.
