Rising Sun City Council approved the raising of rates for customers of the municipally owned utility during a public hearing held at the city council meeting on Thursday, Jan. 3.

The only opposition to the increases was Terry Leigh, a former mayoral candidate. He opposed the increases because of the current economic conditions.

The base rate of the electric rate will go from $4.30 to $7.50.
