Ohio County and Rising Sun received $118,869 for road construction and improvements in 1962 through license fees and other funds paid into Indiana’s Motor Vehicle Highway Account by the state’s automobile and truck operators.
The annual meeting of stockholders of the East Enterprise State Bank was conducted at the bank Friday, Jan. 19. Directors elected for 1963 were: W. R. Houze, A. W. Truitt, A. D. Chase, Orville Phillips, and James F. Detmer.
Frank Milner and Lowell Bliss were overcome by carbon monoxide fumes this morning (Thursday) while working on a furnace at Bliss’s garage on Fourth Street.
Sunday proved to be a good day for Rising Sun tournament bowlers when Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hewitt and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gossom finished in the top 15 (out of 100) at Durbin Bowl doubles tournament.
A heavy snow began to fall about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning covering a layer of ice left by freezing rains of Tuesday evening. Drifts were reported as high as 4 to 6 feet in some areas and the general depth of snow was estimated at 12 inches at Wednesday noon. Temperatures soared to 10 to 15 degrees below zero Wednesday night.

Petitions are being circulated this week requesting the proposed reorganized Rising Sun-Ohio County Building Corporation to construct a school building in Rising Sun and lease the structure to the newly consolidated school board.
January 22, 1953
A public hearing will be conducted February 16 in Indianapolis by the Indiana Public Service Commission in regard to the abandonment of the Greyhound bus line through Rising Sun. The bus line rerouted their buses after the Arnold’s Creek bridge collapsed.

A third petition is out requesting City Council to provide for a system of electric lights and water works to be owned and operated solely by the city of Rising Sun.
Births: to Mr. and Mrs. Glendal Stork, a daughter Julie Ann, Jan. 18 at Dearborn County Hospital. The baby weighed 8 lbs. 9 oz.; to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fitzgerald, a son born Jan. 15; to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Romans, a daughter Ginger Lee, Jan. 21. The baby weighed 9 lbs. 1 oz.; to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stow, a son born Jan. 20. The baby weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and has been named Thomas Royce; to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hayes, a daughter born Jan. 20.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold See have named their daughter Lisa Carole.
Miss Ethel R. Palmer completed her three month teaching in the Patriot schools Dec. 21. The second grade is now divided and is taught by the first and third grade teachers.
The Mt. Carmel Methodist Church was the scene for a lovely winter wedding January 5 uniting in marriage Miss Marylin Jean McHenry and Larry Bailey.
