Auxiliary bake sale goes bakeless
The American Legion Post No. 59 Ladies Auxiliary bake sale to raise funds to promote community sponsorships, scholarships, and veteran’s affairs will require no baking this year.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Auxiliary is asking for those willing to participate to just donate the price “of a pie or a cake or something nice.”
Here is the poem they are using for their cause:
A bit of news we have today,
A bakeless bake sale is underway.
In these busy days, who wants to bake,
Pies, cookies, or even a cake.
You’d be surprised if you counted cost,
Materials, heat, and the time you lost.
Baking for sales is extra work,
Nobody really wants to shirk.
So we’ve thought of a plan we think is grand,
And feel quite sure you’ll understand.
In a little envelope please put the price,
Of a pie or cake or something nice.
Without fuss or bother you’ve done your part,
We hope you’ll give with a willing heart.
On this idea we hope you’ll pounce,
And just think, you won’t gain an ounce.
This is the end of our little tale.
Wishing success for our Bakeless Bake Sale!
The ladies are grateful for your continued support and generous contributions to their cause. They ask that you make donations to the American Legion Auxiliary, noting Bakeless Bake Sale, by June 30. Donations can be sent to treasurer Roxanne Jones, 110 Burgess Ave., Rising Sun, IN.
The Auxiliary is a diversified group of women including nurses, homemakers, accountants, and public officials, who instill Americanism in their everyday lives and community. Their mission is to serve others and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families at home and abroad.
For more than 100 years, the Ladies Auxiliary has been a staple in the community, and the proceeds from their fundraisers, like the bake sale, are generously given back in various forms.
They consistently make donations to organizations who promote breast cancer awareness and Special Olympics. They grant annual education scholarships, and recently donated money to Rising Sun Schools to help provide meals to students and senior citizens during the pandemic.
They provide funding each year for a high school student to attend Hoosier Girls State to further knowledge about government.
The Auxiliary gives handmade blankets to patients at local nursing home; and sponsors and mans the annual community Easter egg hunt, which was held virtually this year.
The organization also supports the American Legion and their Sons detachment. The Auxiliary provides food and catering services for Post No. 59 fundraisers, benefits, and funerals, and recently donated funds for upkeep of Legion building.
The Auxiliary holds monthly meetings at the Post building the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. You can attend or stop by the Post building to fill out an application.
