Shooting kills man in downtown Madison

Gunfire during a scuffle Thursday evening, April 16, in downtown Madison left one person dead, said Indiana State Police.

ISP was called to the 400 block of West Vaughn Street around 9 p.m. to assist Madison Police Department with a death investigation, said an ISP press release.

Preliminary investigation revealed during an altercation between several subjects, a gun went off, the bullet striking a male subject, said the release. That male was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Three other males have been detained for questioning in this investigation, said ISP. The deceased name was being with-held pending notification of next of kin.
