June ‘ride’ pays tribute to SE Indiana’s fallen heroes
The ninth annual Ride to Remember Southeastern Indiana Fallen Soldiers and Marines is slated for Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9.
The event covers more than 300 miles throughout Indiana, with stops in Batesville, Sunman, Aurora, Bennington, Madison, Scottsville, Clarksville, New Albany, Bartlettsville, Brownstown, Vernon, and Versailles.
The event honors 16 fallen soldiers and marines with a ceremony at each stop to remember their sacrifice.
It demonstrates to families that their loved ones are not forgotten, said spokesman Michael Buettner.
“During the ride, participants will have the opportunity to learn of the sacrifice made, as well as meet many of the Gold Star family members,” he said.
The event is open to the public at no cost. Participants are encouraged to stand in the flag line at each ceremony, as well as showing honor and respect to the families for their loved one’s sacrifice.
Riding a motorcycle or being a veteran are not requirements. Participants can come to one or any of the stops. There is an informal celebration with Gold Star families and overnight stay in Clarksville for those who want to participate both days.
