Rising Sun celebrates veterans

On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, the Rising Sun American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Sons, Riders, Legionnaires, and several Boy Scouts of America gathered around the circle at the Rising Sun Riverfront Veterans Memorial to honor their beloved veterans.

Just before the ceremony commenced, Ohio County Veterans’ Service Officer Bill Parks urged the more stubborn veterans, who tried hiding amongst the crowd, to be recognized, saying, “Come on. Be proud to be down here!” After they were all situated, the bell tolled 21 times based on the honorary 21 gun salute. It was eerily quiet afterward as “Taps” was played by Legionnaire Roger Hilligoss.
