Submitted photo: The Barkshire Family home recently was recognized as a historic landmark for its use in helping hundreds of slaves on their freedom journey. The fate of the home now lies in the hands of a finance company in Utah that foreclosed on the property. The home is located at North Poplar and Fourth streets just a quarter mile from the river.


Uncertainty remains concerning fate of historic home

Around this time last year, the Barkshire Family home received its official historical marker, putting Rising Sun on the map as an Underground Railroad town.
