Shooting, turnovers haunt RS

RISING SUN - Double-figure scoring nights for three Rising Sun girls basketball players were haunted by weak shooting and turnovers in a 56-33 season-opening loss to Franklin County Friday, Nov. 2. In their earliest opener ever, two days after Halloween, Coach Abby Friend’s Lady Shiners got a combined 33 points from senior center Danyka Groover (13) and sophomores Lindsay Montgomery and Maddi Wilson (10 each). Unfortunately, no other Shiners cracked the scoring column as team shooting sagged to 24 percent (11-46) from the field on the home floor. Franklin County, 10-13 last year, led 14-10 after one quarter in its debut under new coach Joe Adams. FC then put Rising Sun behind by 13 at halftime, 34-21, with a 20-11 second period run. Shiner scoring dipped to six points in each of the final two quarters, spotting the Wildcats a 16-point advantage, 43-27, after a sluggish third period en route to the final 23-point margin.
